Special Forces: How to detect without being detected

Temporary surveillance and perimeter protection on field

Special Forces use the 360° SPYNEL-M sensor as part of their operations to deal with all unforeseen events. SPYNEL sensors are a world reference for their ability to rapidly detect threats.

Whether it is to urgently and temporarily protect an area during a mission, to secure a zone before an intervention or during the visit of important personalities, or even to identify suspects during intelligence phases, SPYNEL thermal sensors provide the highest definition images in real time, day and night, in complete discretion. It allows to accurately detect, identify and confirm the presence of imminent threats, and automatically track them.  The Spynel-M cameras are compact and can be deployed quickly. Completely passive, they guarantee the stealth of users and are therefore used by special forces in many countries.

  • OPEX areas to be protected, in hostile territory, where the installation of security systems is risky;
  • Need for surveillance, often temporary, with ultra-fast deployment or dismantling;
  • Use passive means to avoid detection by the enemy: radar solutions are prohibited because they are active and easily detectable by the electromagnetic waves they emit;
  • Surveillance systems must be light and compact enough to be easily carried during missions;
  • Infrared cameras must have very low power consumption be battery-operated and guarantee a long autonomy on the ground.

SPYNEL-M is the ideal 360° infrared sensor to cover the needs of special forces in terms of temporary surveillance and perimeter protection.

  • Ease of use: Infrared sensors and their integrated CYCLOPE software are particularly intuitive, even without training, and are therefore easily handled by special forces who often change missions.
  • Rapid deployment: SPYNEL-M is particularly appreciated by special forces for its very rapid deployment capabilities, during a convoy stop, on a supply plot or to protect an improvised camp. The operator of the surveillance system can receive alerts on a rugged tablet via a wireless link. The soldier can thus be mobile and assigned to other functions in parallel.
  • Completely passive and undetectable when used in enemy zones for reconnaissance or infiltration missions. Spynel is also unaffected by jamming and luring.
  • Compact: SPYNEL-M measures 12×20 cm and weighs 1.8 kilograms. It is easily transportable, for example in a backpack.
  • Low constraint power supply: The 360° SPYNEL infrared sensor can also be powered via POE or solar panels, and the low bandwidth allows access to the camera from one or several remote control centers.
  • Lightweight and autonomous (battery-powered): This is a key feature for Special Forces, who must remain highly mobile while transporting technologies that are often heavy and cumbersome.

Temporary monitoring applications:

Special Forces use our 360° perimeter surveillance systems for many different applications. Here are some examples:

  • Surveillance of isolated / desert areas: 360° infrared cameras can be installed at the core of the site to be protected, or abandoned ahead of the area to be protected, allowing the installer not to expose himself to danger by avoiding a risky zone.
  • Special event security, VIP procession: the cameras can be deployed very quickly; the reduced bandwidth allows the sensor to be connected to a remote control centre. The SPYNEL system can also be installed in all the places visited by a VIP during their trip, securing the area from a roof for example. SPYNEL also provides waterfront surveillance, protection of ground-based aircrafts, rural or desert areas in the event of an unexpected stop of a VIP convoy.
  • Vehicle surveillance: SPYNEL-M cameras are easily installed on autonomous cars (USV) to conduct reconnaissance missions.
